WEST LAFAYETTE — The 2015 Book-Harmon Leadership Forum will take place at Purdue University on Wednesday, Oct. 21 starting with a pizza lunch for students and guests at noon in the Dean’s Auditorium of Pfendler Hall. This year’s Book-Harmon Fellow is Carrie Maune, vice president of Trilogy Analytical Laboratory. Maune will start her presentation, entitled “Things I Learned Along The Way”, at 1 p.m., followed by a question and answer and discussion session.
Carrie Maune graduated from the University of Central Missouri and began her career as an Analytical Chemist at Midwest Research Institute in Kansas City, Missouri. In 1986, she began her agricultural chemistry and food safety career at Romer Labs in Union Missouri. She served more than 12 years as lab manager and then director of technical services.
Trilogy Analytical Laboratory was founded by Bruce Malone, Kraig Bond, and Carrie Maune in 1999. Maune served as president from 1999 to 2010. She currently serves as vice president and is involved with day to day operations, quality management and special projects. Maune has presented and spoken at many conferences and workshops worldwide.
The Book-Harmon Leadership Program was established by Bob Book and Dr. Bud Harmon in 2004 to promote leadership in students interested in animal agriculture.
Book was a Purdue College of Agriculture alumnus, past vice president of sales and marketing for Elanco Animal Health, a U.S. Marine and a member of many industry boards. He was truly visionary about the importance of growing agricultural leaders. Book passed away in December 2012. His wife, Jeanne, resides in Carmel.
Harmon is an alumnus of Purdue University, graduating with a B.S. degree in animal sciences in 1958. He matriculated to Michigan State University and received his PhD degree in 1962, studying swine nutrition. Harmon served in the U.S. Navy, was a professor of animal sciences at the University of Illinois, director of non-ruminant nutrition for Ralston Purina Mills, professor and head of animal sciences at Purdue University, and president of the American Society of Animal Sciences. Harmon is now the president of Railsplitter Feed Technology, LLC, and is a true leader of animal industries. Harmon and his wife, Mary Lynne, live in Kirkwood, Mo.
As a part of the leadership celebration that day, the department will also honor six outstanding Purdue Animal Sciences graduates at the annual Animal Sciences Distinguished Alumni Award event. The ANSC DAA activities will begin at 3 p.m., followed by a reception at 4 p.m. All activities are open to the public and will take place in the Dean’s Auditorium of Pfendler Hall.
The Book Harmon Forum is sponsored by the Book-Harmon Leadership Program, the Department of Animal Sciences, and the College of Agriculture Office of Academic Programs.
