Lois L. Rumsey
Lois L. Rumsey, 89, of Michigan City, passed away Thursday, Oct. 8, 2015, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Oct. 23, 1925, in Goshen to Owen R. and Rosa (Cassel) Miller.
On July 23, 1945 in Goshen, she married Robert W. Rumsey who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Meredith Rumsey of Michigan City; a son, David W. (Lisa) Rumsey of Minooka, Ill.; four grandchildren, Jennifer Johnson of Columbus, Ohio, Laura (Brian Johnson) Nickell of Indianapolis, Erin Rumsey and Patrick Rumsey both of Minooka, Ill.; three great-grandchildren, Jaina, Jesilyn, and Julianne Johnson; a sister, Jeanette (Cecil) Miller of Goshen; and two brothers, Terry (Virginia) Miller and Floyd (Marie) Miller both of New Paris.
Mrs. Rumsey was a 1943 graduate of Goshen High School and moved to Michigan City in August 1964. She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Michigan City, where she volunteered for many church duties. Mrs. Rumsey was a homemaker and a part time receptionist for Catholic Family Service (R.S.V. P.) retiring in January 1988 after 13 years. She enjoyed books, gardening and was a part of the “Coffee Girls” who met every Tuesday morning to solve any earthly problems and share support for all the family members of the group. They all raised many children together. The running joke was “Don’t let anything important happen on any Tuesday – that’s ‘Coffee Day.’ ”
Friends may call from 12:30 p.m. until the 1:30 p.m. (CDT) funeral service, Sunday, Oct. 11, 2015, funeral service at St. John United Church of Christ, Michigan City, with Pastor William Fine and Pastor Victoria Ubben officiating.
Friends may also call from noon until the 1 p.m. funeral service Monday, Oct. 12, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, 119 S. Main St., Goshen. Father Larry Biller, St. James Episcopal Church, will officiate.
Burial will follow at Violett Cemetery, Goshen.
