Teen Arrested For Theft Of Family Jewels
NORTH MANCHESTER — A North Manchester teen is facing possible felony charges and a $20,000 bond after the alleged theft of a safe containing family jewels from his father’s home.
According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by the Kosciusko County Prosecutor, Keagan Marshall Doran, 18, 708 Thorn St., North Manchester, was arrested on Thursday, Oct. 8, for a level 6 felony charge of theft.
The case began when police received a call on Sept. 6, from the suspect’s father. Officers from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene where they were told the victim believed his son, Keagan Doran, had stolen a safe and its contents out of his father’s bedroom. The safe contained two diamond tennis bracelets valued at $2,500 each, a platinum diamond ring valued at $15,000, an opal birthstone ring valued at $200 and personal documents.
On Monday, Sept. 21, the victim reported he had seen the suspect’s girlfriend wearing one of the stolen rings on Sept. 6. Police questioned Doran who admitted he had stolen the safe and its contents. After the theft, Doran stated he returned all stolen items except the two rings which he sold to a pawn shop in Lawrence, for $100.
Doran also returned three handguns he had stolen from his grandmother’s home. Doran noted he had thrown the safe from the Eel River bridge.
