Soccer Sectional Review – Oct. 6
Girls soccer sectionals were on the docket Tuesday as the Class 2-A Plymouth sectional opened and the Class 1-A Oak Hill sectional carried on. Also a key area matchup took place in Elkhart County.
Class 2-A Girls Soccer at Plymouth
Culver Academy 4, Plymouth 1
After a scoreless first half, all of the action took place in the second half. Culver advanced to the sectional semis against NorthWood with the huge output. Plymouth’s lone goal came from Mimi Southwell. Opposite of Culver-NorthWood will be Wawasee versus defending champion Warsaw, which is the 5 p.m. opening kick Thursday.
Class 2-A Girls Soccer at Concord
Northridge 1, Goshen 0
Northridge made sure it’s fantastic season continued while Goshen will not make a second run deep into the state tournament. A Bailey O’Dell goal in the first half was enough to get Northridge by Goshen and into the sectional semis. Jade Thompson had the assist on the goal.
Northridge fired 18 shots in the contest, forcing Alyssa Hershberger into 11 saves. Meghan Cawood made three saves for the clean slate.
Concord and Memorial will play in game one Thursday while Northridge and Central will work in game two.
Class 1-A Girls Soccer At Oak Hill
Blackford 8, Maconaquah 1
North Miami 1, Manchester 0
Blackford fired off 27 shots on Maconaquah in an overwhelming matchup. Blackford picks up its seventh win of the season in the lopsided affair.
In game two, North Miami found the net with 23 seconds left in the second overtime to pick up its tenth win of the season. Manchester was credited with 24 shots in the 93-plus minutes of action but could not get one to find the back of the net. The Lady Squires finish its season 10-4-2.
The semis at Oak Hill will have Eastbrook and Oak Hill playing in game one Thursday and North Miami and Blackford in game two.
