Groovy, Green Mobile Coffee Shop Hits Kosciusko Streets
When asked what kind of vehicle most teenagers would dream to have, answers will span the gambit. From a heavy duty pick-up truck to a classic sports car, or even just the family “beater,” teens dream of the day they will have wheels of their own. For Morgan Diecks, 15, of Leesburg, her dream car is a 1970s Volkeswagon Bus with a mobile coffee shop inside.
Morgan, and her father Tom, share more than just a familial bond. The dynamic duo is bonded by a deep rooted love for java and VW vehicles. According to Tom, his and Morgan’s love for coffee began to take flight after the two practiced serving friends and members of their church congregation. Working to create elegant and artistic beverages, Tom admits Morgan quickly overtook him in terms of pouring skills.
Looking to take their mutual love of coffee and turn it into a great learning experience for his daughter, Tom began to devise a plan to create a revolutionary coffee shop. Morgan, who is currently homeschooled by Tom and his wife Jo Anna, will soon be learning business, finance and customer service firsthand as an official business partner for she and her father’s trendy new mobile coffee shop, “Driveline.”
Tom and Morgan began to search for the components needed to bring their dream to fruition. The duo found a green, 1974 VW Bus near Chicago. After countless man hours put into gutting the car (with clean up provided by Morgan) Tom and his friend Peter Everett began attempt to create a coffee shop within the rear of the bus that incorporated the Diecks’ favorite aspects of coffee shops. New cabinets, electrical wiring, plumbing and even an order window and table were added into the rear of the bus.
The father/daughter duo then traveled to Chicago to act as coffee connoisseurs. The two sampled numerous brews in order to select the perfect vendor for the operation. After much taste testing, the two settled on Dillanos Coffee Roasters, based out of the Seattle area. The two also selected an espresso machine imported directly from Italy to give their new mobile coffee shop its finishing touches.
Tom, a pastor at Branches Vineyard Church, based out of Syracuse, recently began seeing plans to open a branches of the Vineyard Church in Warsaw at the old Baker Youth Club. Though Tom will continue his duties as pastor and with his own private business, he notes he and Morgan are hoping to have the shop open to travel a route throughout Warsaw within the next week or so.
The two will be open from Tuesday to Friday initially, offering numerous types of hot brews to patrons from 7 a.m. to noon. An exciting plan of the Deicks is to allow customers to send a text or notification to the business to request Driveline pull up at a local business to fill coffee orders for those with early morning blues.
Tom explained Morgan will be running much of the scene behind the counter, utilizing her past work knowledge from a North Webster coffee shop to serve customers and manage orders. Though Morgan is still unable to drive, Tom noted he intends to act as the businesses driver throughout the first year of operation.
For further information on Driveline or to place an order, follow drive line on Instagram at driveline_coffee, on Facebook at Driveline Coffee Co. or call/text (574) 377-0043.
