Soccer Sectional Review – Oct. 5
Soccer sectionals opened around the state Monday. Here is a breakdown of some of our coverage school’s sectional tournaments, including the open of the Oak Hill girls and Warsaw boys tournament brackets.
Class 2-A Boys Soccer at Warsaw
Culver Academy 4, NorthWood 1
Andres Sada scored in the 21st minute to get the Eagles on the board, assisted by Mauricio Bailleres. NorthWood tied the match at one with a Brayton Taylor goal with just 2:12 on the first-half clock.
All Academy in second half, starting with a goal from Adrian Juraidini assisted by Bailleres, then Bailleres got into the scoring column with a goal with under 10 to go. James Kerr put a bow on Culver’s advancement to Wednesday’s semi-final against Plymouth with a penalty kick conversion with 15 seconds left in the contest.
Culver outshot NorthWood 14-9.
Game one Wednesday will feature Wawasee against Warsaw at 5 p.m., followed by the Academy and Plymouth.
Class 1-A Girls Soccer at Oak Hill
Eastbrook 3, Whitko 0
Oak Hill 6, Peru 0
Eastbrook led 2-0 at halftime and finished the shutout in the opening game of the eight-team sectional at Oak Hill. Whitko concludes its season 4-9-1 overall.
The hosts then followed up with a resounding shutout of Peru in the night’s second game. Eastbrook and Oak Hill will meet in the first game Thursday. Maconaquah and Blackford will play at 5 p.m. tomorrow, followed by Manchester and North Miami.
Class 1-A Boys Soccer at Argos
Culver 4, Oregon-Davis 1
Culver broke up a 1-1 match in the second half with three unanswered goals to pull away from the Bobcats. The Cavaliers move to 9-7 on the season.
Culver will meet host Argos in Wednesday’s second game, which follows Bremen versus Lakeland Christian Academy in its 5:30 p.m. kickoff.
