Bowen Center Participates In Depression Screening Day
WARSAW — National Depression Screening Day will be observed nationwide on Oct. 8 and this year marks the 25th anniversary of the observance.
According to Screening for Mental Health, Inc., National Depression Screening Day is an education and screening event conducted by hospitals, clinics, colleges and community groups nationwide.
The Bowen Center is active in addressing depression-related issues year-round. According to SMH, as many as 80 percent of those treated for depression show an improvement in their symptoms generally within four to six weeks of beginning treatment.
One in five people, ages 18 to 25, have experienced a mental illness in the past year and one in 10 adults in the country report being depressed. In addition, Major Depressive Disorder is the leading cause of disability in the U.S. for ages 15 to 44, according to the World Health Organization.
At The Bowen Center, literature on mental health issues is available at any of the center’s 11 clinical locations in 10 Northern Indiana counties (Allen, DeKalb, Huntington, Kosciusko, LaGrange, Marshall, Noble, Steuben, Wabash and Whitley) as well as on the center’s website at www.bowencenter.org
