Manchester Schools Launch Community Reading Website
By AMY ACREE And BETHANY HALL,
Manchester School Corporation
We have created a website entitled readitglobal.com that will launch live Oct. 1. The purpose of readitglobal.com is to encourage readers to read from various genres, and to connect readers from around the globe, as books are shared by using a hashtag.
Each month we will be showcasing an author and a genre. We will encourage our followers to read that genre and share what they are reading using #readitoctober (changing to signify the current month). We will promote #readit through social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, blogs, etc.).
We are very excited that Kate McMullan has agreed to be our featured author for #readitoctober! Kate has written a letter that is featured on www.readitglobal.com to all readers. Kate’s letter to our readers will encourage the genre of fantasy as we will be promoting her Dragon Slayer’s Academy books.
This morning, the entire faculty and staff at Manchester Community Schools attended the unveiling of www.readitglobal.com. The morning program consisted of two videos explaining the project created by Amy Acree, a website tutorial by Bethany Hall and a live Skype session with October’s featured author Kate McMullan, who resides in New York City.
For more information concerning the project you may follow www.readitglobal.com and by searching for “Read It Global” on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. All teachers, schools and readers everywhere are encouraged to take place in the effort to create a love of reading and exploring various books.
