Goshen Schools To Retire Redskins Mascot As Of Jan. 1
GOSHEN — In a Sept. 29 meeting, the Goshen School Board finally agreed on a retirement date for the Redskin mascot. On Jan. 1 the mascot and logo will be retired from the Goshen school community.
Board President Cathie Cripe says work will start immediately with the goal of using a new mascot as of Jan. 1 and have the new mascot fully in use district-wide for the 2016-2017 school year.
A student-led group called the Mascot Selection and Celebration Steering Committee is in charge of choosing a new mascot. Goshen Middle School and Goshen High School students and alumni who live in the district have through Sunday to submit suggestions.
