ELKHART — The Pillars of Elkhart are hosting the annual Oktoberfest and Chili Cook-off event from 1-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at Central Park behind the Civic Plaza downtown Elkhart. This family-friendly event will feature a chili cook-off, kid-friendly activities as well as a Cornhole tournament benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Elkhart County.
Over 15 local restaurants and organizations are competing in the well-known chili cook-off beginning at 1 p.m. The public can sample all competitor’s chili recipes for $5 (kids 8 and under sample free); and cast their vote for their favorite “People’s Choice.”
Celebrity judges Marshall King, Mayor Dick Moore and Tim Neese will be voting for “Judges Choice.” Cook-off participants will also be judged for the “Best Booth” award based on creativity and decorations. All winners will be announced at 4 p.m.
On-site Cornhole Tournament registration is from noon to 1:45 p.m. with the tournament starting at 2 p.m. The cost to participate is $40 per team. The winning team will receive a “Pillars Prize Pack” of local restaurant gift cards ($100 value).
The whole family is encouraged to come out and participate in activities such as face painting, fall crafts, a scavenger hunt and other fun children’s games. Live music from MR Z band starting at 1 p.m., College Football games televised on the Monster Jumbotron and a beer garden will ensure that adults will enjoy the fall festival as well.
“The Pillars [of Elkhart] Oktoberfest is a perfect opportunity to bring family and friends down to Central Park and enjoy a fall Saturday together,” said Jason Fink, Pillars member. “What an awesome community experience. Live music, food, drinks, games and supporting a great local non-profit organization.”
