Sidney Teen Arrested After Pursuit
ELKHART COUNTY — A Sidney teen has been arrested on three preliminary felony charges after he lead police on a chase Saturday near the intersection of CR 17 and the Indiana Toll Road.
Jacob Evan Whitaker, 19, 107 N. Main St., Sidney, has been arrested for resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, criminal recklessness, possession of marijuana, and leaving the scene of an injury or death accident/failure to stop after accident resulting in injury, death or entrapment of a person. He is being held in the Elkhart County Correctional Facility without bond.
Whitaker was taken to Memorial Hospital of South Bend, where he was treated and released. An unnamed passenger with him refused treatment.
Elkhart Police had attempted to stop Whitaker around 7:42 a.m. near Cassopolis Street and CR 6, on the north side of Elkhart. Whitaker failed to stop and lead police on a chase throughout north Elkhart.
Whitaker entered the Indiana Toll Road from Cassopolis Street where he sideswiped a vehicle, going east along the toll road and exiting toward CR 17 on the westbound entrance ramp. Whitaker then turned around, but crashed as he tried to enter the toll road.
