Pierceton Fire Kicks off Fire Prevention Week
PIERCETON — Pierceton Fire Department will host a Fire Prevention Week Open House from 4-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9. The event is in partnership with Paragon Medical and the American Red Cross. The event is geared toward all ages for a night of fun and interactive learning.
Hear the importance of “Hear the Beep where you sleep” expressing the importance of having fire alarms in every bedroom of the home with hopes of lowering the statistic that three out of five home fire deaths in 2007-2011 were caused by fires in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms.
The free event is being held at the Pierceton Fire Department.
There will be an opportunity to sign up for free fire alarms (up to three per household), which come with a 10-year life battery given away to any family requesting assistance. The fire alarms are being donated through the American Red Cross Home Fire Campaign, striving to reduce death and injuries caused by residential fires by 25 percent over the next five years.
During the evening there will be hands on activities such as exploring the firetrucks; practicing the steps of stop, drop and roll; making a fire helmet; understanding the importance of pre-planning; learning hands-only CPR; and general first aid.
There is also a free dinner being brought in by Big Boss BBQ.
