Babysitter Arrested, Left Children Inside Hot Car
LAWRENCE — Lawrence police arrested 44-year-old Shuron Scott for neglect after she allegedly left two children she was babysitting alone in an SUV Sept. 24, while she shopped at a Pendleton Pike Kroger.
An officer reported to the scene where he found two children in distress and long sleeved clothing; the police report stated it was 79 degrees at the time and the van was not running, with only an inch wide gap in a rear passenger-side window to provide air for the children.
Scott arrived at the car several minutes after the office arrived and started the air conditioning.
When the officer spoke with the Kroger manager, and had viewed the available surveillance footage, he determined Scott had been in the Kroger for close to 15 minutes while the children were left alone in the vehicle.
Scott was arrested, on two counts of neglect of a dependent. The kids’ mother arrived to take them home shortly after their babysitter’s arrest.
Shuron was booked into the Marion County Jail.
