Warsaw Ladies Third At New Prairie Invite
NEW CARLISLE – Warsaw’s girls cross country team had a fantastic showing at the 48th annual New Prairie Invitational, taking third overall in the girls AAA division (large schools). The Warsaw boys were 17th in the boys AAA division (large schools).
Warsaw’s duo of Mia Beckham and Allison Miller were strong, with Beckham taking seventh overall at 19:29 and Miller 11th at 19:38. Anna Craig was 14th at 19:42 and Brooke Rhodes was 24th at 19:56 to give the Lady Tigers four in the top 25. Warsaw scored 92 points, just behind Lake Central’s 87. LaPorte won the AAA team title with just 65 teams points. Northridge was fourth at 123 points, Penn sixth at 157, Mishawaka 12th at 321, Concord 13th at 379, Elkhart Central 20th at 613, Elkhart Memorial 21st at 613 (sixth tie-breaker) and East Noble 23rd at 650.
Among the area girls in the AAA top 25 were Penn’s Lauren Frank (6, 19:25), Northridge’s Morgan Blyly (9, 19:32), Penn’s Ellie Jankowski (20, 19:54), Northridge’s Mariah King (21, 19:55), and Northridge’s Jenna Miller (23, 19:55). Bellmont’s Bailey Beery led the AAA girls field with a time of 18:53.
Warsaw’s boys were led by Owen Glogovsky’s 14th place time of 16:36 and Zeb Hernandez’s 17th place run of 16:39 as the only two Tigers in the top 25 in the AAA race. Warsaw scored 388 points but were well off the pace of state powerhouse Valparaiso’s 111 points. The Vikings were led by champion Danny Dalton’s winning time of 16:01. Westview was sixth at 186 points, Northridge ninth at 312, Winamac 15th at 375, Mishawaka 18th at 402, Penn 19th at 429, Elkhart Memorial 24th at 621, Concord 26th at 664 and Elkhart Central 27th at 709.
Among the area boys in the AAA top 25 were Westview’s Richmond Stoltzfus (5, 16:16), Westview’s Matthew Yoder (6, 16:20), Winamac’s Kyle Collins (7, 16:23), Northridge’s Conner Sandt (10, 16:26), Winamac’s Zen Zupin (23, 16:51) and Westview’s Derek Miller (24, 16:51).
Tippecanoe Valley were 25th in the boys AA (medium schools) and 22nd in the girls AA races. No Viking runner cracked the top 25. In the boys A (small schools) race, Triton finished 20th and the girls were 17th in the A race. Triton did not have a boys crack the top 25, but Baylee McIntire was 20th with her time of 21:54 for the Lady Trojans.
Among the area girls AA top 25 were Culver Academy’s Mary Terhune (20, 21:04) and Culver Academy’s Annie Shea (23, 21:09). Lowell won the AA girls title with 120 points. Culver Academy was sixth at 199 points, Mishawaka Marian seventh at 217, Plymouth 18th at 468, Rochester 19th at 486 and Jimtown 25th at 747. Madeline Lilly of Twin Lakes won the AA title with a time of 18:49.
Among the area boys AA top 25 were Rochester’s Wesley Meyer (3, 16:30), Rochester’s Eli Pugh (8, 16:56), Culver Academy’s Zach Dunlap (10, 17:19), Jimtown’s Jacob Vicsik (20, 17:55), Culver Academy’s Justin Matei (24, 18:01) and Plymouth’s Jeffrey Oliver (25, 18:02). Fort Wayne Concordia, led by champion David Ehlers’ 16:17 championship time, won the AA title with 58 points, Rochester in second at 98, Culver Academy fourth at 154, Plymouth 13th at 382, Jimtown 14th at 405, Mishawaka Marian 23rd at 593.
Among the area girls A top 25 were Bremen’s Alyssa Fanning (2, 19:58), Manchester’s Rae Bedke (3, 20:07), Winamac’s Claire Collins (4, 20:34), Westview’s Samantha Kohlheim (16, 21:41), Manchester’s Clara Burdette (21, 22:00) and Westview’s Lydia Rang (22, 22:13). Top A girls time went to Fremont’s Riley Welch at 19:39.
Manchester won the girls A title with 91 points. Bremen was fourth at 168 points, Westview fifth at 200 and Winamac seventh at 224.
There were no area boys in the A top 25. Morgan Township, led by Ben Savage’s 16:29 championship run, won the A title with 45 points. Manchester was 10th at 288 and Bremen 16th at 385.
