Mentone Council Approves Wrecker Rotation
MENTONE — Flood plain maps, wreckers and police policies are keeping the town of Mentone busy for the month of September.
During its regular meeting, held Tuesday evening, Sept. 7, the Mentone Town Council approved the town’s new flood plain ordinance.
Representatives from four wrecker services, including Crouse Body Shop Inc., Glenn’s Wrecker Service Inc., Reichert and Knepp Wrecker Services and Raven Wrecker Service.
The town had been using Reichert exclusively any time a vehicle needed to be towed. However, at least two others had expressed interest in being added in on a rotation basis. The council approved the new rotation.
Council President, Tim Croy, added that three of the four quoted costs. Crouse charges $120 to town and $30 per day for storage, Glenn’s charges $125 for towing and $25 per day for storage and Reichert charges $150 to tow and $30 per day for storage.
Police department policies were again a topic of discussion. However, the topic is still tabled until the town hears back from an attorney out of Indianapolis who works with the Indiana State Police.
The Mentone Police Department recently received a grant to purchase four new bulletproof vests. The grant funded half, with the town paying the other $1,708.72. Croy noted that the current vests are outdated.
The Mentone Water Department will flush hydrants next Monday, Sept. 14.
“We ask for people not to do their laundry that day because you may get rusty water,” Croy said.
Fencing has been installed in one half of the town cemetery, with the council hoping to have the other half completed next year, as funds allow.
Council member Jill Gross asked for an executive session to be set for 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, so the council can discuss employee-related topics.
The next meeting of the Mentone Town Council is set for 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5.
