KENTUCKY — The county clerk who was sentenced indefinitely to jail last week for not issuing same-sex marriage licenses has been released from jail today, Sept. 8. Kim Davis, who has become a hero among Christian conservatives, was released from jail just hours before a rally was supposed to take place outside the jail.
Judge David Bunning issued an order for her to be released today, so long as she does not interfere with the licenses that her deputies have issued and will continue to issue.
Last month, Davis resisted the judge’s ruling to sanction same-sex marriages, and was sentenced to jail until she cooperated.
Davis will presumably continue to battle in court over the validity of the licenses issued since her sentence.
