Goshen’s Park Named Colts Coach Of The Week
GOSHEN – Goshen football is hot out of the gate, and coach Kyle Park has been recognized for the team’s start. Park was named “Colts Coach of the Week” after the Redskins defeated Northern Lakes Conference foe Elkhart Memorial 17-14 last Friday.
Goshen, now 3-0 for the first time since 2002, began its season by ending a 23-game losing streak when it beat Fairfield, also the first time in Goshen’s long history to face its backyard rival.
The 2015 season marks the sixteenth year the Indianapolis Colts will be recognizing outstanding Indiana High School football coaches through the Colts/NFL Coach of the Week program, presented by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
Park, in his second season at the helm, was winless in his first season. A 1997 graduate of Goshen, Park was part of many successful Goshen football programs as a player, including a semi-state team in 1996 and an undefeated regular season team in 1997. Kyle’s father, Brad, was a longtime head coach at Goshen, who guided the 1999 team to the state finals as well as the ’97 team to the semi-state.
All high school head coaches in the state of Indiana are eligible regardless of their school size, league or division. Coaches are evaluated on various factors including the coach’s impact on his team, school and community, as well as performance of the team. The honorees are selected by a panel of high school football media, former athletic directors and other football representatives from all regions of the state.
In addition, all of the 2015 winners will be recognized at a Colts practice visit, and an on-field ceremony at an Indianapolis Colts home game. Each winning coach will also be presented with a certificate, as well as a $2,000 check for their school’s football program. Each award is made possible through at $1,000 contribution from both the NFL Foundation and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
