Five Boys Run Personal Bests At IWU
The boys cross country team ran at the Marion Invitational this past Saturday and five runners ran PRs in the race.
Wawasee’s top finisher was Luke Griner who placed 41st with a time of 17:03. Spencer Hare, Sam Griner, Ben Hoffert and Braxton Alexander were the other four runners to set PRs next to Luke Griner in the event.
Due to the team’s finish last year Wawasee was placed in the elite division and ran against some of the best teams in the state. Wawasee finished 7th in the 15-team field.
“I am proud of the improvement we are showing on a weekly basis,” said head coach Chad Hoffert. “It was great to see us run well against some teams that will be in the state finals this October.”
Lady Warriors Place 14th In Loaded Field
The girls cross country team struggled against seven ranked team at the Marion Invitational. Aubrey Kuhn led Wawasee with a time of 21:09. Yanelly Pizana and Bailey Schroeder both ran season bests for Wawasee in the event.
“It was a fast race up front,” stated head coach Doug Slabaugh. “The girls are running on tired legs from the race on Tuesday in the heat. Overall, i thought they ran well in a tough field.”
Both the boys and girls teams will run at Warsaw Tuesday evening.
Warriors Play To Draw
The boys soccer team hosted Huntington North Saturday afternoon and were able to escape with a 0-0 draw.
Caleb Glon highlighted the contest for Wawasee with five saves in goal.
“Great game by the boys,” Said head coach Jordan Sharp. “This is a positive result for us as we continue to improve every contest.”
The JV team lost 4-2.
Wawasee (1-5-1) will play NorthWood this week.
Goshen Cruises By Lady Warriors
One of the region’s premier programs stuck it to girls soccer team on Saturday. Goshen enjoyed a 7-0 victory at Warrior Field.
Goshen held a 2-0 lead at the half then expanded that to the eventual 7-0 final by scoring five goals in the first 11 minutes of the second half.
“We played an aggressive first half,” said head coach Doug Heinisch. “Goshen deflated us in the second half with that string of goals but our girls never quit.”
Wawasee (2-4-1, 0-2) will host Whitko on Wednesday.
JV Football Gets Run Over
The JV football team was pounded by Northridge 42-6 Saturday morning. Jeremiah Dilley led the defense with seven tackles. Will Geer was 6-7 for 139 yards and a passing score.
Wawasee (1-2) will travel to Concord on Saturday.
Lady Warrior Fifth At Swan Lake
The girls golf team placed fifth at the Culver Academy invite this past weekend.
Wawasee was led by Kylee Rostochak’s 84.
Mikala Mawhorter (90), Madison Beaman (93), Aubrey Schmeltz (100) and Kamryn Foy (100) rounded out the scores for the Lady Warriors.
“Same story for us today, said Steve Coverstone, Wawasee’s head coach. “Too many big holes out there today. We’re in a bit of a slump, but we’ll come out of it. Kylee played very well today.”
