Davis Is Upholding The Laws
Dear Editor,
I’ve got news for those who say that Kim Davis should obey the laws she swore to uphold. Truth be told, she is not only upholding the oath of her office to obey the constitution and the laws of Kentucky, but she is also acting in agreement with the Supreme Court’s own ruling on its authority to define marriage for the states.
The Supreme Court itself ruled that they have no business interfering with state laws on marriage. Just two years ago in it’s overturning of the federal Defense of Marriage Act, the Supreme Court said that their reason for overturning the federal act was because the power of the individual state in defining marriage “is of central relevance” and that DOMA “because of its reach and extent, departs from this history and tradition of reliance on state law to define marriage.”
Bottom line … Kim Davis is not disobeying any law! In America, laws are written and passed by the legislature, not from the bench. There is no federal law that says she must disobey state law, which has been the licensing authority for marriage since it became a “state” institution. There is no federal marriage law! And even if there were, the Supreme Court has already ruled that it would be unconstitutional!
And by the way, Daniel disobeyed federal law while working for the government too (King Nebuchadnezzar) because the law contradicted his faith. As I recall, God honored him for that decision!
