Labor Day
The Syracuse Library is closing all day Monday, Sept. 7, to observe Labor Day. Regular hours resume at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8.
Fall is Back with Book Clubs
The children’s department is having a contest to name its new boat. Children who submit a suggestion have their picture taken and it is placed on the bulletin board with their suggestion. Each entrant is awarded with some small toy boats and one of the names will be chosen to name the boat. Chances to suggest a name for the boat goes through the beginning of October.
School has started and the first book club of the year is having its annual pizza party. The monthly Children’s book club will meet from 5-6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15. Children from kindergarten through fifth grade are welcome to join an evening of reading, games and snacks. Call the library at (574) 457-3022 for any information about the free programs at the library.
The adult book club, One Book, One Hour, meets at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9. The round table discussion about the Barbara Kingslover book, “Flight Theory,” is led by member Megan McClellan.
A special notice goes out to the Dysfunctional Book Club. “Stingray Shuffle” is about a dysfunctional writer and will be highlighted in the Sept. 24 discussion. A word of advice for readers that are sticklers for reading a series in order, get reading! “Triggerfish Twist” and “Stingray Shuffle” are books four and five.
