Truman L. Martin
Truman L. Martin, 90, of Nappanee, peacefully passed away after a brief illness at his home at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015.
He was born July 12, 1925, in Harrison Township, to Willis and Nellie (Culp) Martin. He was a lifetime area resident. Truman was a dairy farmer, and part owner of Sta-Fast Hitches in Nappanee. After retirement, he transported the Amish to various locations. He was a member of Yellow Creek Wisler Mennonite Church. In his later years, he and his wife did volunteer work with the Disaster Response and Greencroft in Goshen.
He is survived by his faithful wife of 67 years: Lois Emma (Ramer) Martin. They were married June 6, 1948. Also surviving are his six children: Gleta (John) Hauser, Almena, Wis.; Willodean Carroll, Nappanee; Theresa (Duane) Weingarten, Hayward, Wis.; Elwood (Anita) Martin, Gros Morne, Haiti; Burnell (Cindy) Martin, Ridgeland, Wis.; Dawn (Lynford) Miller, Nappanee; 22 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sisters: Vivan Benner, Dayton, Va.; and Matie Layman, Harrisonburg, Va.; and sisters-in-law: Charlotte Martin; and Rosetta Martin, both of Goshen. He was preceded in death by brothers: Leon; Marion; and Eugene Martin; and sisters: Louise Zimmerman; and Mildred Martin.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, at the Ramer Mennonite Youth Center, Nappanee. Friends and family may meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, at Yellow Creek Wisler Mennonite Church for the final viewing rites, with burial to follow at the church cemetery. The funeral service will follow at Yellow Creek Wisler Mennonite Church. The Home Ministry will officiate. Memorial contributions may be given to Christian Aid Ministries. Thompson-Lengacher and Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, is handling the arrangements.
