Lydia Mae Burkey
Lydia Mae Burkey, age 94, passed away at 7:35 am, Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Wakarusa. She was born Sept. 21, 1920, in Marshall County to Joseph and Emma (Miller) Schwartz.
Mrs. Burkey was a lifetime area resident. She was married to Paul L. Burkey Nov. 2, 1941, in Nappanee. He preceded in death March 2, 1990. She was a homemaker and worked on the farm with her husband. Mrs. Burkey was a member of Holdeman Mennonite Church. She was a very supportive farmer’s wife and a wonderful role model to her family. She was a strong supporter of Faith Mission.
Surviving are her children: Diana (Wayne) Weldy; Beverly (Lavern) Coblentz; James Burkey, all of Wakarusa; a son-in-law: Ezra (Barbara) Mast, Middlebury; grandchildren: Kevin (Myrika) Coblentz, Wakarusa; Elizabeth (Michael) Bessinger, Elkhart; Jon BUrkey, Wakarusa; great-grandchildren: Tray Newcomer; Colbie Coblentz; brother: Ervin Schwartz, Wakarusa; and sisters: Esther Helmuth; Nora (Dale) Welty, both of Wakarusa; Clara (Sanford) Kilmer, Goshen; and Laura (William) Yoder, New Paris. She was preceded in death by a daughter: Phyllis Mast; daughter-in-law: Linda Burkey; sister: Amanda Weaver; and brother: Ray Schwartz.
Family and friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, at Thompson-Lengacher and Yoder Funeral Home, Wakarusa, and for one hour prior to the funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, at Holdeman Mennonite Church with Rev. B.J. Leichty officiating. Burial will be in Olive West Cemetery.
