Triton Sports Wrap – Sept. 2
Zebras Stampede Volleyball Matchup
Rochester wasn’t on the original schedule for Triton volleyball, and the Lady Trojans may have wished the matchup wasn’t added. Rochester survived a close first game only to cruise to a 3-0 win Wednesday in the Land of the Zebra.
Rochester pulled out a 25-21 final in game one, then rolled on to a 25-11, 25-14 finisher.
Triton was unable to mount any offense, slowed by 17 percent kill percentage (10-60), and serve receive was also a problem, where 12 passes were given away for points.
Jaela Meister and Nicole Sechrist, Triton’s primary hitters, were just 8-52 in kill opportunities. Triton did hustle on defense, with Meister, Sechrist, Quinn Downing and Hannah Wanemacher combined for 37 digs.
Triton (2-4) will play Thursday at Culver.
Plymouth Pitches The Shutout
Plymouth held serve on its home courts Wednesday afternoon, blitzing Triton 5-0 in boys tennis.
Plymouth nearly threw a perfect game, only allowing three games to Triton. Tommy Holloway beat Aaron Stichter at No. 3 singles two and love, and the No. 1 doubles team of Nate Knapp and Braydon Davidson defeated Dalton Bailey and Keygan Moiser love and one.
Otherwise, the other three courts were love, love winners. Winners for the Pilgrims were John Hunter at No. 1 singles over Gavin Eads, John Gerard at No. 2 singles over Mace Eads and at No. 2 doubles, Grant Clady and Nick Felke topped Brendan Damron and Chase Butler.
Plymouth won the lone JV match.
Triton (3-5) goes back to work Thursday at Whitko while Plymouth (5-2) will host Warsaw, also Thursday.
