Syracuse Police Chief Announces Resignation
SYRACUSE — Syracuse Police Chief Tony Ciriello announced his resignation via email Tuesday, Sept. 1.
In an email to town council members, Ciriello stated “During the last 10 years of service to you and the Town of Syracuse have been some of the greatest experiences of my law enforcement career.” Ciriello went on to add his choice to resign is not reflective of the people he works with and works for, noting he has decided to join the private business sector and accepted a job offer outside the field of public service.
Ciriello’s resignation is effective Oct. 30, although his last day in the office will be Oct. 2. Ciriello has also offered to aid in finding and training a replacement to “ensure a smooth and seamless transition.”
Ciriello has served as Syracuse Police Chief since August 2005, recently celebrating his 10-year anniversary with the department.
