Rezoning In Leesburg Recommended For Approval
WARSAW — During its regular monthly meeting Wednesday, Sept. 2, in Warsaw the Kosciusko County Area Planning Commission considered a final plat, a rezoning request and also a public driveway vacation.
A rezoning petition by Worthington Tractor Parts was recommended for approval. Worthington wants to rezone slightly more than 5 acres of land from agricultural to industrial II on the west side of SR 15, north of CR 600N in Plain Township on the edge of the corporate limits of Leesburg.
The 5 acres is part of a 10-acre tract zoned agricultural. Worthington would like to use the acreage to expand its operations, noted Dan Richard, area planning director. County commissioners will consider the petition at their Sept. 22 meeting.
In other business, the APC recommended approval for a vacation of a public drive on the south side of Webster Lake. It involves the portion of Baugher Road, a driveway platted but never opened and which does not physically exist, in front of lots six, seven and eight in a subdivision west of EMS W3 Lane. Thomas Collins is the petitioner and was represented by attorney Steve Snyder at the APC meeting.
Snyder noted it was discovered during a survey the driveway still exists on paper. Since it is lakefront property, it was felt the driveway should be vacated.
Richard said it would be better if all the property owners along the drive would request a vacation at the same time instead of having to do it piece by piece as has happened at other lakes in the county. Snyder noted at least some of the other property owners have expressed an interest, but have not filed petitions yet.
County commissioners will consider the petition at their Sept. 22 meeting.
The APC also approved a final plat for Next to Heaven, a two-lot agricultural II subdivision at the intersection of county roads 500 East and 950 North in Turkey Creek Township. Rick and Patty Marlow are the property owners.
And Mike Kissinger, the newest member of the APC as the county surveyor, was elected secretary to replace Dick Kemper.
