Dysfunctional, the book club that could have been called a requiem for journalists, meets one more time at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24. The discussion centers on former Tampa Tribune reporter, Tim Dorsey. The previously discussed authors, Hiaasen, Barry, and White all trained as writers for magazines and newspapers before writing popular Florida fiction.
Serge Storms, the main character in Dorsey’s books, is offended that he is called a serial killer by the police and media. The Syracuse Library is stocking the series of Dorsey books so that readers can determine what kind of man Serge is. Serge, the caretaker of Coleman whose only talent is inventing a better way to get high, is admired by many while he travels through the state of Florida looking for historic sites, quite a few in a state of run-down disgrace. He has a thing for librarians, what’s not to love? Dorsey is the hottest author in the competitive Florida book-scene.
Experience the adventures and join the escapades while following Floridaphile and Rube-Goldberg-inventor-of-death, Serge Storms. Dysfunctional is a PowerPoint centered discussion about Tim Dorsey, his many characters, and the great state of Florida. The main discussion will center on the chronologic beginning of the story with “Triggerfish Twist.” Copies of book club books are available through Evergreen and by calling the library at (574) 457-3022. All meetings are free and open to any interested people.
