Mary Ann (Burkett) Martin
Mary Ann (Burkett) Martin, 83, of Culver, passed away Wednesday evening, Aug. 26, 2015, surrounded by her loving family.
Mary Ann was born in Ora, on July 20, 1932, the daughter of Cecil and Blanche (Whetstone) Burkett. She graduated from Knox High School in 1950. She met William Martin in Mishawaka and they were married June 25, 1950, in Ora.
Mary Ann enjoyed music, especially Christmas music. She enjoyed painting ceramics. She was also an avid doll collector. Mary Ann was a stay-at-home mom for her four daughters and later for her grandchildren. During her life she was involved in Girl Scouts, Culver Women’s Bowling League, Culver Eagles and played Bunco. She taught preschool at Wesley United Methodist Church in Culver and also was a waitress at Café Max.
She loved her family, including husband of 65 years: William “Bill” Martin; daughters: Debra June Martin, Chicago, Ill.; Glenda Joy (Larry) Pachniak, Warsaw; and Brenda Lee (Steve) Harper, Plymouth; grandhcildren: Addison Martin “Adi Marie” Harper, Jasper; and Lindsey Nicole (Mikey) Pauley, Ewing, Va.; great-granddaughters: Jaylyn Harper Pauley; and Adeline Sue Harper; sisters: Judy Tillman; and Linda Drang; both of Ala.; and brothers: Gary (Bev) Burkett, Ora; and Randy (Geri) Burkett, Culver.
She was preceded in death by her daughter: Tina Rae Martin; her parents; her brothers: Cecil Burkett; Glen Burkett; and Roger Burkett; and sister: Peggy Hale.
Mary Ann was beloved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, at Odom Funeral Home, Culver, with one hour visitation before the service. Burial will follow at Culver Masonic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given in Mary’s memory to the Cerebral Palsy Association.
