Warsaw Sports Wrap – Aug. 29
With the top runners for Warsaw’s girls cross country getting the day off, the second rung of talent on the club got to compete at the DeKalb Invitational Saturday morning.
The team finished in seventh place, scoring 161 points. East Noble won the Invite with 68 points, edging Huntington North’s 71 points and DeKalb’s 79 points.
Amanda Hermann was the top Warsaw finisher and earned 30th place honors while running a personal best of 21:59. Sierra Palmer finished immediately behind in 22:00 and then five more Lady Tigers finished in the next nine places, including Michaela Roark (34, 22:29), Remi Beckham (35, 22:30), Caitlin Kehler (36, 22:30), Angie Sanchez-Vijil (37, 22:32), and Emma Bohnenkamper (40, 22:36).
Eight new personal best efforts were run with another two season best times after an outstanding team effort at Tuesday’s Warsaw Classic.
Next up for the Lady Tigers is their home Northern Lakes Conference opener against Northridge and NorthWood, matching up the top two teams from last season in Northridge and Warsaw. The Tuesday start has been moved back to 6 p.m., the boys race to follow.
Kingsmen Hold At Home
The Warsaw Tigers could not get its offense going in another tough road loss, this time 2-0 at Penn Saturday afternoon in Mishawaka in boys soccer.
Noah Craig scored on a penalty kick and Riley Smith added a goal, assisted by Macrae Smith to propel the Kingsmen to the victory.
The Kingsmen junior varsity also found success against the Tigers, winning 2-1.
Warsaw, now 1-4 overall, will jump back into Northern Lakes Conference play Wednesday when they travel to Concord for the always intense matchup.
