Virginia TV Crew Fatally Shot During Live Interview
MONETA, Va. – A television reporter and a cameraman for WDBJ7 in Virginia were shot to death on television Wednesday, Aug. 26. Reporter, Alison Parker, and cameraman, Adam Ward, were doing a story about local tourism when suspect Vester Lee Flanagan II, Roanoke, Va., gunned both Parker and Ward down. The woman being interviewed, Vicki Gardner, was also shot and hospitalized.
Flanagan is described as a disgruntled station employee who appeared on-air under the name Bryce Williams. ABC News reported on its website that the network received a 23 page fax from someone claiming to be Williams, but did not elaborate on the contents of the fax and it was turned over to authorities. Federal officials said there was no indication of a connection to terrorism.
A man believed to be Flanagan later crashed a vehicle and officials found him suffering from a gunshot wound. He is currently hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
