RV Acquisition Expected To Create Jobs
FORT WAYNE — An acquisition by a subsidiary of Elkhart-based Drew Industries Inc. could lead to 125 jobs in New Haven. The Journal Gazette in Fort Wayne reports Lippert Components Inc., which announced the acquisition last week of Allen County-based Roehm Marine LLC, plans to pump nearly $670,000 into upgraded equipment and new positions.
The workers will be located at the former Signature Seating plant in New Haven. Lippert’s acquisition is valued at $16 million and the company is seeking tax abatement, which is set to go before the city council Tuesday.
New Haven can use the economic boost, as recently-announced plant closures in the city by Fort Wayne-based Vera Bradley Inc. and Parker Hannifin Corp. of Ohio could leave a total of 400 workers out of a job.
New Haven Planning Director Brian Yoh tells the publication the bulk of the new positions involve sewing, upholstry, woodworking and assembly, paying an average of $13 per hour. Other openings listed on the company’s tax abatement request to the city could pay salaries averaging $38,000 and $72,000 for research and development and managerial positions.
