‘Safety Last’ Silent Film Shown At Lerner Theatre
ELKHART — A showing of the romantic-comedy “Safety Last!” will be part of the Silent Movie Experience on Friday night, Aug. 21, at the historic Lerner Theatre.
The 7:30 p.m. event begins with a concert by guest performer Brett Valliant, who will play The Lerner’s restored 1924 Kimball organ. Valliant also will provide the score for the movie, which was originally released in 1923 and stars Harold Lloyd.
The silent movie series is presented by Friends of The Lerner with support from Edward Jones Investments. The final event for 2015 will be Oct. 24, and includes a showing of “The Cat and The Canary.”
“People come to these and leave saying they can’t believe the experience,” says theatre manager Ellie Billey. “Your brain gets so in tune with everything that’s going on that you don’t even realize you’re seeing a silent movie – the action on the screen, the music that’s surrounding you. It’s a truly unique feeling.”
Tickets are be available through TheLerner.com, the theatre box office at 410 S. Main St., Elkhart, or by calling (574) 293-4469. Prices for the organ concert and silent movie are $20 for adults, $17.50 for seniors, and $15 for students, with children 6 and under admitted free.
