SYRACUSE — Syracuse Public Library news and events this week:
Book Clubs
Young adults are hanging on to the excitement of summer at the first book club meeting of the school year. Teens are invited to eat s’more-cupcakes and talk with friends about the movies they have seen and the latest authors from 5-6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18. Young people from sixth grade up are included in an invitation to come to the book club where food, games, and crafts are part of the discussion.
Dysfunctional book club meets at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, for a powerpoint look at Randy Wayne White. The discussion looks at the similarities between Florida and the author’s life experiences. White lives on Sanibel Island in the same setting as his characters. White has written more than 25 books, mostly fiction, that take place in Florida and other parts of the world where he traveled during the time he was a regular contributor to “Outside” magazine. Dysfunctional Book Club is for people that enjoy Florida, like to read mysteries, or have feelings about the writing of Randy Wayne White.
All meetings are free and open to any interested people. More information is available on our site at www.syracuse.lib.in.us , or by calling (574) 457-3022.
Children’s Department
The Syracuse Library is not finished remodeling. The children’s department is making room for a boat and moving books for better access. As a result, there are plenty of really nice books that have been removed to create space. The price for used books has been lowered to ten for-a-dollar. The book sale continues through the end of August.
