Drivers Stable After Tuesday Morning Crash
ETNA GREEN — A Bourbon woman was listed as stable after a dump truck crushed the driver’s side of her car, trapping her inside.
Her survival has been called, “nothing short of a miracle.”
The call went through at 7:26 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4 that a dump truck had overturned onto a car at the intersection of Beech Road and Old US 30, north of Etna Green.
Officers with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department responded to the call, along with officers from the Bourbon Police Department and the Indiana State Police.
The red 2006 Mack dump truck, driven by Michael J. Kats, 42, Warsaw, had overturned onto its passenger side, landing atop a white 2010 Toyota passenger car, crushing the driver’s side and trapping the driver, Kimberly A. Amor, 37, Bourbon, inside.
A third vehicle, a silver Chevrolet passenger car, driver by Christopher J. Bradfield, 25, Plymouth, had also been involved and was sitting nearby with damage. Given the damage to Amor’s vehicle, emergency personnel feared the worst. What they found surprised them.
“The one that we expected to be the worst was actually stable,” Sgt. Neal Wallace of the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department said.
Upon investigation, police discovered that Kats had been westbound on Old US 30, when Bradfield’s vehicle, northbound on Beech Road, proceeded into the intersection. Kats swerved but his dump truck struck Bradfield’s vehicle, sending it to the side of the road and throwing Bradfield into the backseat.
Meanwhile, the dump truck spun, then tipped over onto its passenger side, landing on top of the driver’s side of Amor’s vehicle, crushing it and trapping Amor inside.
Fire and EMS personnel worked more than a half-hour to rescue Amor from her vehicle. Amor was alert and talking and in stable condition at the time.
“It’s nothing short of a miracle,” Wallace said.
Kats suffered minor scratches. Both Amor and Bradfield were airlifted from the scene. Their current injury status is unknown.
