Indianapolis Winery Awarded Wine Of The Year At International Competition
WEST LAFAYETTE — Easley Winery of Indianapolis took home the top prize at the INDY International Wine Competition held July 29-31 at Purdue University. The winery’s 2014 Traminette won Wine of the Year, beating out nearly 2,100 competitors.
Wines from 40 different states and 12 countries were entered in the competition. They were judged on appearance, aroma, taste and aftertaste. Wineries from around the state of Indiana won a total of 316 medals: 31 double gold, 45 gold, 158 silver and 82 bronze.
Winemaker of the Year was also awarded to an Indiana resident: Ted Huber of Huber’s Orchard, Winery & Vineyards in Borden, Indiana. Officials award the prize to the vintner that wins the most gold medals by brand at the competition.
Huber’s also won Winery of the Year and the brand’s Catawba Rose won Indiana Wine of the Year.
Other winners from around the state included Country Heritage Winery of LaOtto, Indiana’s Farm Winery of the Year; and French Lick Winery, for Indiana Traminette of the Year.
