Warsaw Library’s Susie Stafford Memorial Book Sale
By ANNA JACKSON

WARSAW — Summer – the time for garage sales, flea markets, farmer’s stands, tent sales, yard sales, and auctions. There is nothing quite like standing out in the hot sun, pawing through piles of other people’s stuff, hunting for the bargain that just can’t be passed up.
Amazing buys at rock-bottom prices — this is the stuff of summer.
Of course, the best part of garage sales and flea markets is looking through all the books. It never ceases to amaze me why a person would decide to throw out a first edition copy of John Steinbeck’s “The Grapes of Wrath” (true story – my best friend got one free.) or get rid of an autographed copy of Mark Twain’s “Adventures of Tom Sawyer,” but these things happen, and someone’s got to find them.
In the spirit of summer shopping, it’s time for another library book sale and the Warsaw Community Public Library is proud to announce the renaming of their annual summer book sale in honor of the late Susie Stafford.
Anyone who shopped at the summer book sale, usually held the first weekend in August, would be greeted by Stafford’s mile-wide grin and a friendly hello. Stafford, the library administrative assistant, was passionate about the summer book sale and always volunteered her time to help staff this event. She loved to read, and she enjoyed getting to talk to other book lovers every year at book sales. Because she always had a book in her hands, Stafford was great at recommending fun reads to others.
This year’s Susie Stafford Memorial Book Sale will be held from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7; 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, inside WCPL.
There are lots of books available, including: children’s material, large print, history, travel, business, and all the leftover fiction from the Adult Summer Reading Program. We also have quite a few beautiful coffee table type books available. Hardback books are $1 each, and paperback and children’s books are 25 cents each. Check out the library book sale and see what amazing bargains you can find.
