Man Sleeps Through Being Hit By Train
RICHMOND, IN — A Richmond, Indiana, man was struck by a train while laying between the tracks at approximately 10:45 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1. The conductor stopped the train to check on the man and said he had to wake him up to tell him he’d been hit.
“No I didn’t,” replied Josh Napier, 30, to the conductor according to Lt. Donnie Benedict of the Richmond Police Department. Then, Benedict said, Napier put his head down to go back to sleep.
Personnel on the Norfolk Southern train told officials Napier was asleep in the middle of the tracks between Northwest L Street and Salisbury Road when the train passed over him. The train stopped about 25 yards south of the crossing at Salisbury Road. There was no damage to the train.
Richmond police and fire first responders carried Napier to a waiting ambulance. He was transported to Reid Health with non-life threatening injuries.
After the incident, the train resumed its trip to Fort Wayne at 12:40 a.m. According a Reid Health official, Napier is in stable condition.
