Tom Seitz Named Crossroads League Commissioner
INDIANAPOLIS – The Crossroads League Council of Presidents (COP) has announced that Tom Seitz has been named the new Commissioner of the Crossroads League.
Seitz is the second Commissioner in the history of the Crossroads League as he takes over for J.D. Collins, who resigned in June to take the NCAA’s National Coordinator of Men’s Basketball Officiating position. Seitz brings over 30 years’ experience as a student-athlete, coach, administrator, and manager of championship events to the Crossroads League.
Mr. Dan Elsener, President of Marian University, served as the chairman of the commissioner search committee that also consisted of Dr. Gregg Chenoweth, President of Bethel College; Dr. Jim Brenneman, President of Goshen College; Dr. Sherilyn Emberton, President of Huntington University; Dr. David Wright, President of Indiana Wesleyan University; Steve Downing, Athletic Director at Marian University; and Lori Culler, Athletic Director at Huntington University.
“The Crossroads League was very fortunate to have a very dedicated and talented search committee of athletic directors and presidents to oversee and execute this search. The search produced over 50 highly qualified candidates and Tom Seitz emerged the clear and unanimous favorite of the committee,” said Dan Elsener, Marian University President and chairman of the search committee.
Elsener added, “We are grateful Tom has agreed to be our commissioner and that the COP has given its unanimous support of our selection. Tom Seitz’ many talents will allow us to build upon the strong platform J.D. Collins has built for this dynamic League and further our aggressive aspirational goals for the future.”
Seitz most recently served as the Director of Athletics at Santa Fe Christian Schools. While at Santa Fe Christian Schools he oversaw the total operation of 60 teams at the varsity, junior varsity, middle school, and youth levels for one of the largest athletic programs in the state of California. Seitz also developed and implemented the first strategic vertical integration plan leading to the creation of one of the most successful athletic programs in southern California.
Seitz also currently serves as the president and owner of Comprehensive Athletic Management Services (CAMS), which provides strategic planning services to college athletic programs, including membership and conference affiliation feasibility studies.
“We are excited by Tom’s appointment as the new Commissioner of the Crossroads League. His broad experience as a student-athlete, coach, and athletic director, along with his years of building very successful athletic programs, makes Tom the ideal candidate for leading the Crossroads League forward,” said Dr. Jim Brenneman, Goshen College President and current Chair of the Crossroads League COP.
Seitz has previously served as the Director of Athletics at Jacksonville State University in Alabama and Jacksonville University in Florida. At Jacksonville State, he provided the steady leadership that moved their NCAA Division II program to a successful NCAA Division I program. At Jacksonville University Seitz grew the athletic program from 14 sports and 200 student-athletes to 20 sports and over 400 student-athletes.
Seitz, who will officially begin his duties as Commissioner on August 15, said, “I am honored and humbled to be selected as Commissioner of the Crossroads League. I look forward to working with such a unique combination of private, faith-based schools with great administrators, coaches, and athletic programs.”
He added, “Much has been accomplished within the League in the past and I believe more great honors are in store for the future. I am excited to get started.”
A native of Daytona Beach, Florida, Seitz earned his Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from The Citadel and his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Oglethorpe University.
