Shannon Buck
Shannon Buck, age 78, Akron, died on July 25, 2015, at his residence of pancreatic cancer.
He was born on Feb. 18, 1937, to Walter H. and Mary Velom (Prater) Buck in Grayson, Ky. He graduated from Prichard High School in Grayson, Ky. in 1955. Shannon earned a BA degree from Morehead State University. He then lived in Michigan before moving to Akron, in 1976.
Shannon served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1959. He married Mary Jean Berol on May 25, 1968, in Jackson, Mich.
He owned and operated the Akron Feed and Grain and then owned and operated South Side Video Store in Akron before retiring. His last job was working at Kroger in Rochester until he became ill in March of 2015. His hobby was racing mini stock cars for almost 20 years at the Plymouth Speedway and New Paris Speedway. He loved animals and his horses. He was a member of the Akron Church of God.
Surviving Shannon is his wife: Mary Buck, Akron; son: Bryon S. (Heather), Alpharetta, Ga.; children: Dylan Simison, North Webster; Mary Katelyn Buck, Alpharetta, Ga.; daughter: Lori J. (companion James Kats) Fitzpatrick, Tippecanoe; children: David Fitzpatrick; Jacob Kats, Tippecanoe; Lukus Kats, Nappanee; Joshua Kats, Warsaw; brother: Louie (Rita) Buck, Evansville; sister: Nila (Buck) Booth, Louisville, Ky.
Preceding Shannon in death are his parents; brother: Franklin Buck; two sisters: Pearl Porter; and Shirley Manning.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at Earl-Love Funeral Home. The service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 30, at the funeral home, with Pastor Terry Canfield officiating. Burial will be at the Akron IOOF cemetery, Akron.
