Paul J. Pontius
Paul J. Pontius, 77, of Silver Lake, passed Saturday, July 25, 2015, at his residence which was the same home he was born.
He was born Feb. 18, 1938, in Wabash, to Verl and Ruth (Smith) Pontius. He was previously married to Audrey Gerrick, who is the mother of his children. He retired from Sonoco Products Co., Akron, where he worked for more than 40 years. He was a lifetime member of the NRA and an avid follower of politics. He was an outdoorsman, who enjoyed mowing and visiting with his neighbors. Paul loved dogs, especially the family dogs, that he always had treats for. He was known to love visiting over coffee at local restaurants.
Paul is survived by his sons: John (Margi) Pontius, Silver Lake; Steve (Katrinna) Pontius, Akron; daughter: Teresa Pontius Nelson, Rochester; brother: Russell (Judy) Pontius, Laketon; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four grand-dogs. He was preceded in death by his parents; son: Mark D. Pontius, in 2004; five brothers: William; Richard; Omar; Robert; and Frank; and sisters: Zelma; and Pearl.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, July 31, 2015, at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor J.P. Freeman, North Manchester. Burial will be at Akron Cemetery, Akron.
