Nextremity Solutions Featured In Oral Presentation
Nextremity Solutions’ Nextra® Hammertoe Correction System was most recently featured in an oral presentation given by Charles M. Zelen, DPM during the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) congress held in Long Beach, Calif.
Dr. Zelen presented a level 1 evidence study titled, “Prospective Randomized Multicenter Comparative Effectiveness Study Comparing; Two Component Modular Digital Implant Versus K-Wire Fixation For Surgical Correction of Hammertoes”, during morning sessions at AOFAS on July 16. This study highlighted scientific data that shows an almost six times higher rate of bone fusion with the Nextra device compared to traditional K-Wires, as well as just over 2 times higher rate of quality of life over K-Wires.
Among the other key findings of this study were the following:
- 60 percent greater Reduction in pain over K-Wires
- 3.3 times better at decreasing patients’ level of disability over K-wires
- 8.8 times improvement in activity compared to K-Wire
“This study was performed in order to show definitive proof with Level 1 evidence that Nextremity Solutions’ Nextra Hammertoe device was better for patients than the traditional means of hammertoe correction surgery using K-Wires.” said Zelen.
“It’s always good for a company to be able to put their claims to the test through studies like this one. Nextremity believes in good clinical research, and is willing to take the time and necessary investment to make this a reality. Nextra was designed by surgeons for surgeons and we can now clinically prove that when you listen to surgeon input, you develop a product that truly makes a difference in the lives of patients,” commented Nick A. Deeter, CEO and chairman for Nextremity Solutions, Inc.
