Idle Speed Restriction Rescinded For Tippecanoe And Barbee Lakes
KOSCIUSKO — Boaters rejoice, the temporary speed restriction on Tippecanoe and Barbee Lakes has been rescinded.
Recently, Indiana Conservation Officers announced the temporary restriction for motorboats to idle speed on Lake Tippecanoe chain of lakes, Lake Wawasee and Barbee Lakes. Though restrictions have been lifted for Tippecanoe and Barbee lakes, Lake Wawasee is still under the idle speed restriction at this time.
The restriction was prompted following a series of high rainfall weeks that resulted in hazardous high water conditions for standing structures such as lake homes. Due to these conditions, DNR Director Cameron Clark authorized an emergency order to restrict speeds that could cause water to flood into homes.
Watercraft exempted from this restriction are those operated by a local, state or federal governmental law enforcement agency, emergency response personnel or the Department of Natural Resources.
More information on the restriction lift is expected to be released by the DNR sometime this afternoon.
