KOSCIUSKO — Educators, do you need some ready-to-go activities to supplement a lesson that are field-tested, award-winning, and student-proven fun and effective?  Come get “WET” and “WILD” at a free workshop held at the amazing Merry Lea Environmental learning Center and sponsored by the Kosciusko County Soil and Water Conservation District.

The award-winning Project WET and Project WILD Aquatic programs will be presented from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, at Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center, Wolf Lake. This workshop will deliver the Project WET curriculum and activity guide to teachers and resource personnel. The guide contains more than 90 broad-based water resource activities that are hands-on, easy to use and fun.  Participants will also receive the Project WILD Aquatic curriculum and activity guide, which contains an additional 50 activities focused on the fascinating world of water and the aquatic habitats it supports.

The goal of this workshop is to facilitate and promote awareness, appreciation, knowledge and stewardship of water resources and its inhabitants through the program’s classroom-ready teaching aids. It includes many water-related topics including atmospheric, surface and ground water, chemistry, water history, watersheds, wetlands, aquatic wildlife, water quality, water use, water management, as well as, wildlife populations, habitats and ecosystems, adaptations and biodiversity.

WET and WILD activities are designed to satisfy the goals of educational programs by complimenting existing curricula, rather than displacing or adding more concepts. These activities provide many opportunities to address curricula objectives and educational standards. They are interdisciplinary, designed for students in grades K-12, and are well suited for use in formal and non-formal education settings.
