NOTRE DAME — One year after unanimously earning a spot on the WNBA All-Rookie Team, and two years after claiming her second straight All-America award and Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year honors, former Notre Dame guard Kayla McBride (’14) has made another significant jump in her career development.

McBride, a second-year standout for the San Antonio Stars, will suit up for the Western Conference at the 2015 WNBA All-Star Game, which will be played at 3:30 p.m. (ET) Saturday at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, and can be seen live on ABC. WNBA President Laurel Richie announced McBride’s selection Thursday, choosing the Erie, Pennsylvania, native as an injury replacement on this year’s West All-Star roster.

It’s the first WNBA All-Star honor for McBride, who joins fellow Notre Dame All-America guard Skylar Diggins  (’14) on the West roster. Diggins, a 2014 first-team all-WNBA pick now in her third year with the Tulsa Shock, was slated to be a WNBA All-Star starter for the second straight season after receiving the most fan votes among Western Conference players. However, she will not be able to compete in this year’s game after suffering a season-ending knee injury on June 28.

With McBride’s selection, Notre Dame is one of three NCAA programs to field multiple WNBA All-Stars this year, joining Connecticut and Louisville in that elite group. This also marks the first time in program history the Fighting Irish have had two alumnae earn WNBA All-Star nods in the same season.

Despite missing five games with a foot injury, McBride leads San Antonio and ranks 14th in the WNBA in scoring this season at 14.0 points per game, while adding 3.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per night. She has scored in double figures in nine of 12 contests, including a pair of 20-point games and a season-high 29 points at Atlanta on June 11.
