Camp Mollenhour On Target For Fun, Education
SILVER LAKE — Safety, outdoor skills and, of course, fun are all part of kids’ experiences this summer at Camp Mollenhour.
The boys’ camp took place last week, while the girls’ camp is occurring this week. The schedules for both are identical, with kids participating in outdoor activities like boater safety; tree stand safety; ATV safety; target shooting with shotguns, arrows and rifles; swimming and fishing.
They also watched demonstrations involving fish cleaning, birds of prey and even squirrel dogs.
The week was not all about classes and demonstrations, however. Campers also participated in watermelon races, cookouts and cabin competitions, with free time included each day.
Camp Mollenhour has taken place since the 1940s. This year’s camp included 63 boys and 36 girls, ages 9 to 14. It is a cooperative effort between Camp C.O. Mollenhour and local conservation officers.
Campers often choose to return year after year and many of them return as adults to volunteer.
