Thomas M. Scherschel
Thomas M. Scherschel, 72, of Churubusco, passed away at 1:55 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2015, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.
Mr. Scherschel was born on Sept. 27, 1942, in Fort Wayne, a son of Martin and Velma (Bobay) Scherschel. He spent his formative years in New Haven, and graduated from Central Catholic in 1960.
On June 19, 1965 he was married in Fort Wayne to Joan Stirnkorb, and moved to Churubusco in 1980.
He was employed at Circle S, and retired after more than 40 years.
Mr. Scherschel was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and the Churubusco American Legion post 157.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, and more important spending time with his family.
The surviving relatives include his wife of 50 years: Joan Scherschel, Churubusco; two daughters: Christine (John) Perez, Huntertown; and Terri (Chuck) Milledge, Fort Wayne; four sisters: Rosie (Bernard) Spieth, Albion; Marita (Jon) Vonderau, Woodburn; Patricia (Jack) Bouse, New Haven; and Cathy Walter, Huntertown; five brothers: Robert (Pam) Scherschel, Fort Wayne; Steven (Patricia) Scherschel, New Haven; Richard Scherschel, New Haven; Edward (Laura) Scherschel, New Haven; Kevin (Penny) Scherschel, Fort Wayne; two brother-in-laws: Mearl Doster; John (Margret Halden) Strinkorb; three granddaughters: Amanda Perez; Riley Milledge; and Jami Milledge; two great-grandsons: Caleb Perez; and Gabriel Lopez.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister: Mary Jo Doster.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, at St. John’s Bosco Catholic Church, Churubusco, with Father Danney Pinto, the celebrant.
The family will receive friends at the Sheets and Childs Funeral Home from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, July 13, or at the funeral home one hour prior to the Mass. The Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery, Allen County.
