Moving Process Begins For S-W Chamber
Syracuse-Wawasee Chamber of Commerce is in the midst of moving into its new street-level office on East Main Street. Executive Director Tammy Cotton said they hope to be completely moved by July 14.
An open house for the new location is then scheduled to occur from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 29.
With the move, the chamber is researching signage for the front window, which is likely to take the form of a simple text decal. Cotton noted she had already approached Scott Pelletier to draw up some ideas.
Beyond discussing its move during the July 1 board meeting, the chamber also wrapped up the golf outing, which occurred June 17. The outing saw 96 golfers who participated in the afternoon shotgun start — there was no morning session. A major fundraising event for the chamber, the golf outing brought in more than $7,500.
While the next golf outing might be a year out, the chamber board discussed creating a committee to begin planning for 2016. Cotton stated she had formulated a task list to aid committee members in putting the event together. The chamber is searching for individuals interested in joining the committee or chairing it.
Additionally, the chamber is looking for other individuals interested in Syracuse or the chamber to join or head some of its other committees.
In other chamber news:
• Board members approved four new members: Lions Karate, North Webster; One Call Water Inc., Syracuse; DLR Heating, Cooling and Electrical, Leesburg; and Coastworthy, a largely Internet-based business.
• A portion of the south “Welcome to Syracuse” sign will be going up soon, and a call has been made to Elkhart County about moving the sign north of Syracuse closer to SR 13.
• New chamber member Coastworthy will be hosting a pop-up event from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. July 10-11 at the new chamber office. During the event, it will have furniture on display.
• Young Entrepreneurs Association of Syracuse-Wawasee is planning another workshop with Alan Steele of the Indiana Small Business Development Center, which will occur sometime in September.
The next chamber board meeting will be at noon Aug. 5 in the chamber’s new office, located in lower level of the former Leisure Pool building on East Main Street.
