Recently I have had the pleasure to indulge in my favorite past time, viewing and reviewing films. There have been so many that have come across my desk that sounds appealing. Here are five films that I found enjoyable and I hope you will too.
First one is “The Loft.” Five married men secretly share a penthouse loft where they can carry out their secret affairs. Things get crazy when they discover the dead body of a woman in the loft, and they realize one of them has to be involved. This film is a wild ride with many twists and turns. If you like mystery you’ll love it!
Next is “American Sniper” which tells the story of Chris Kyle, the deadliest sniper in U.S. military history. It’s a juxtaposition of interwoven tales: the reality of war, the impacts on families, the life and death decisions necessary in wartime, the moral dilemma, PTSD, and, finally, the irony of Kyle’s death. Bradley Cooper plays Chris Kyle. This is one of Cooper’s best films.
The third film, “DUFF”, stars Mae Whitman as Bianca, a High school Senior that comes to realize she is the “Designated Ugly Fat Friend” or “D.U.F.F.” in her social square. After accepting her fate, she cuts all ties with her friends in order to become someone different. She makes a deal with her former friend and neighbor, Wesley to help her accomplish this, while she helps him to pass Chemistry. It’s your typical feel good teen flick. Very cute.
If you like SCI FI then “Project Almanac” is the right film for you. A group of friends discover a time-travel machine and have fun with it, only to find out that they have changed the course of history and caused lethal accidents to happen. Now, they must find a way to fix what they’ve done. It’s time travel gone bad!
The fifth film is for those who love horror. “The Lazarus Effect” is a great little movie with a unique concept. Medical researchers have developed a serum that is intended to assist coma patients, but is shown to actually bring the dead back to life. Olivia Wilde does an outstanding job as being creepy.
If you’d like to view one of these films or prefer to choose one of your own, come in to WCPL and see what we have in our video collection.
