Mavis Ann Vanderveer
Mavis Ann Vanderveer, 85, of Syracuse died June 30, 2015 , at her residence.
She was born in Goshen, Oct. 10, 1929, to Clarence and Mildred (Stiver) Vance. On Oct. 7, 1951, she married Richard Vanderveer, who died in 2013.
She was a graduate of Goshen High School and attended Indiana University. She was a flight attendant for TWA, based in Kansas City and New York. After being married and several moves, she was graduated from Goshen College and earned a Master of Science in Education from Indiana University. She was a much loved fifth grade teacher at Syracuse Elementary School for twenty years, retiring in 1984.
She served for several years as coach of the Wawasee Girls Golf team and was a long-time member of the Max Welton Golf Club.
Survivors include nieces: Ann (Carlos) Bennett, Dayton, Ohio; Janet (Larry) Lant, Syracuse; and Amy (Scott) Williams, Jackson, Wyoming; her cousin: Cynthia Dale, Nashville; three great-nieces; and one great-nephew.
A memorial service will be held at Eastlund Funeral Home, Syracuse, at noon Thursday, July 9, with calling two hours prior to the service. Burial will be in Milford Cemetery at a later date.
