Art In Action: Poured Acrylic Work
By DARLA MCCAMMON
Andrew (Andy) Corp began expressing himself artistically later in life. His original inspiration came from his artistic sister and was spurred on by his wish to leave something memorable for his autistic daughter. His work could almost be considered sculpting in paint and his technique is constantly evolving. His current series is called “Pushing The Darkness Away.”
Corp shares his insights, “I created this series of paintings in order to give people hope. As the darkness in this world closes in on us and the storms of life pull us in every direction there can be hope found in the light. As the light breaks through these paintings so Christ can break through our lives and bring us hope and life. Enjoy these paintings and just as this series of paintings varies in the strength of storm no matter the storm in your life, Christ can shine through.”
Corp had no formal training but developed his style of poured acrylic painting through interaction with other artists and through his careful observation of good art work done by others. Transfixed by the sea, Corp has used it as the subject of a majority of his works. Pictured here is a work titled Sailing Into The Red Sunrise. His work will be on exhibit at the Lakeland Art Gallery at 107 N. 1st St., Pierceton from June 30 through the end of August.
A reception will be held from 1-3 p.m. Sunday July 5 during which an original work by Corp will be given away through a fun scavenger hunt. Corp will also do a demonstration at the LAA annual picnic on at 5 p.m. Monday July 27 followed by the carry-in meal.
