Kenneth L. ‘Ken’ Gillenwater
Kenneth L. “Ken” Gillenwater, 64, of Pierceton, passed away at 3:45 a.m. Friday, June 5, 2015, in Albion. He was born on Aug. 7, 1950, in Bluefield, W. Va. to George and Josephine (Rose) Gillenwater.
He grew up in Bluefield, W. Va., graduated in 1968 from Norfolk High School in Norfolk, Va. and in 1970 from Bluefield College. He was a United States Army Veteran and was married on Sept. 1, 1987, in Tazewell, Va. to Kellie J. Carpenter who survives. He was the former owner and operator of Lions Academy in North Webster where he served as the martial arts instructor for nearly 30 years and he was also in a traveling band for many years. He moved to the Pierceton and North Webster area 30 years ago from Mishawaka.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 253 in North Webster and former member of the North Webster Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife: Kellie Gillenwater, Pierceton; daughter: Kimberly (Chad) Brennaman, Syracuse; son: Josh (Fiancé Vanessa Uzubell) Gillenwater, North Webster; three grandchildren: Madison Brennaman; Delilah Howey; and Kingston Brennaman; mother: Josephine Gillenwater, Princeton, W. Va.; sister: Tina Gillenwater, Occoquan, Va.
He was preceded in death by his father and sister: Marsha Gillenwater.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Saturday, June 13, at Owen Family Funeral Home, North Webster. Memorial services will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home on Saturday. Military services will also follow at the funeral home by the North Webster American Legion Post 253. Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County.
Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Owen Family Funeral Home, St. Rd. 13, & CR 500N, North Webster, IN. Memorial services will follow at 7:00 in the funeral home on Saturday. Military services will also follow at the funeral home by the North Webster American Legion Post 253. Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County in Warsaw, IN
Memorial bequest may be given to the ALS Association (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), Albert Lea, Minn.
